Chime Routing Numbers Guide

Chime is a financial technology company, not a bank itself. Instead, Chime partners with two FDIC-insured banks to provide banking services: The Bancorp Bank, N.A. and Stride Bank, N.A. Your Chime routing number depends entirely on which partner bank provides services for your specific account.

The Two Chime Routing Numbers:

The Bancorp Bank, N.A.

  • Routing Number: 031101279

- Used for: Chime accounts serviced by The Bancorp Bank

- Location: Wilmington, Delaware

Stride Bank, N.A.

  • Routing Number: 103100195

- Used for: Chime accounts serviced by Stride Bank

- Location: Enid, Oklahoma

How to Find Your Specific Chime Routing Number

You cannot choose which bank services your Chime account, and the routing number you must use is determined by your account setup. Here are three ways to find your correct routing number:

Method 1: Chime Mobile App

- Open the Chime mobile app

- Tap on "Settings" in the bottom menu

- Select "Account details" or "Account info"

- Your routing number and account number will be displayed

- The bank name (either The Bancorp Bank or Stride Bank) will also be shown

Method 2: Chime Website

- Log in to your account at chime.com

- Click your name in the top right corner

- Select "Settings"

- Click "Account info"

- Your routing number, account number, and bank name will be visible

Method 3: Check Your Debit Card The name of your partner bank is printed on the back of your Chime Visa debit card. Once you know which bank services your account, you can reference the routing numbers above.

Important: You must use the specific routing number assigned to your account. Using the wrong routing number will cause payment failures, delays, or rejections. Always verify your routing number in your Chime app before setting up direct deposit or ACH transfers.

What Chime Does Not Support

Unlike traditional banks, Chime has specific limitations on certain types of transfers:

Wire Transfers: Chime does not support incoming or outgoing wire transfers, whether domestic or international. Any wire transfers sent to your Chime account will be automatically rejected and returned to the sending bank.

International Transfers: Chime does not offer international wire transfer services. If you need to send money internationally, you must use a third-party service such as Wise, PayPal, or a specialized money transfer provider.

Paper Checks: Chime does not issue checkbooks or paper checks. All transactions must be conducted electronically through ACH transfers, debit card purchases, or the Pay Anyone feature.

Available Transfer Methods with Chime

While Chime does not support wire transfers, you have several options for moving money:

Direct Deposit: Set up direct deposit with your employer or benefits provider using your Chime routing and account numbers. Chime members can receive their paychecks up to 2 days early compared to traditional banks.

ACH Transfers: Link external bank accounts to transfer money in or out of your Chime account. Standard ACH transfers typically take 1-3 business days to complete at no cost.

Pay Anyone: Use Chime's person-to-person payment feature to send money instantly to other Chime members or non-members within the United States. This service is free with no transaction fees.

Mobile Check Deposit: Deposit checks into your Chime account by taking photos through the mobile app. Funds are typically available within 1-2 business days.

Cash Deposits: Add cash to your Chime account at over 90,000 retail locations nationwide, including Walgreens, CVS, 7-Eleven, and Walmart. A fee may apply depending on the location.

Frequently Asked Questions About Chime Routing Numbers

Why does Chime have two different routing numbers?

Chime is a financial technology company that partners with two separate FDIC-insured banks to provide banking services: The Bancorp Bank, N.A. and Stride Bank, N.A. When you open a Chime account, you are assigned to one of these two partner banks, and you must use the routing number specific to that bank. This dual-bank model allows Chime to scale its services and provide banking access to millions of members while maintaining FDIC insurance coverage up to $250,000 per depositor through the partner banks.

Can I use either routing number for my Chime account?

No, you must use the specific routing number assigned to your account. If your account is serviced by The Bancorp Bank, you must use routing number 031101279. If your account is serviced by Stride Bank, you must use routing number 103100195. Using the incorrect routing number will result in failed transactions, payment delays, or rejected transfers. Always verify your routing number in the Chime mobile app or website before providing it to employers or other financial institutions.

Why doesn't Chime support wire transfers?

Chime operates as a digital-first financial technology company with a business model designed to eliminate fees for customers. Wire transfers require complex infrastructure, compliance procedures, and typically come with high fees that would conflict with Chime's fee-free promise. Instead, Chime focuses on modern payment methods like ACH transfers, direct deposit, and peer-to-peer payments through its Pay Anyone feature, which better serve their target customers who are primarily making everyday transactions rather than large business payments. For situations requiring wire transfers, users must use a traditional bank or alternative services.

How do I set up direct deposit with Chime if I'm switching from another bank?

Setting up direct deposit with Chime is straightforward. First, log in to your Chime mobile app or website and navigate to the "Move Money" section, then select "Direct Deposit." You'll see your routing number, account number, and bank name clearly displayed. You can either manually provide this information to your employer's payroll department or use Chime's convenient feature to email yourself a pre-filled direct deposit form. Simply forward this form to your payroll coordinator. Most employers can process direct deposit changes within one to two pay cycles. Keep your old account open until you confirm your first Chime direct deposit has successfully processed.

What should I do if someone tries to send me a wire transfer to my Chime account?

If someone attempts to send you a wire transfer to your Chime account, the transaction will be automatically rejected and returned to the sending bank, as Chime does not support incoming wire transfers. You should immediately inform the sender that Chime cannot accept wires and provide them with an alternative method. The best options are to have them send an ACH transfer using your Chime routing and account numbers (which takes 1-3 business days), use Chime's Pay Anyone feature if they also have a Chime account (instant and free), or use a third-party payment service like PayPal, Venmo, or Cash App. For large amounts, you may need to temporarily use a traditional bank account that accepts wire transfers.
